Northwestern Gulf Under Watch By NHC

The National Weather Service is watching for an area of low pressure to develop in the Gulf of Mexico early next week.

"Any development of this system would likely be slow to occur as it drifts westward toward the northwestern Gulf of Mexico," said the NHC.

For southeast Louisiana, the most immediate impact for now appears to be higher rain chances through the coming week, helping to ease our current heat wave.

There also continues to be a close watch on a tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic.

"Environmental conditions appear conducive for development of this system over the next few days, and a tropical depression could form during the early to middle part of next week. This system is forecast to move westward at 15 to 20 mph over the tropical Atlantic, approach the Windward Islands on Tuesday, and move into the southeastern Caribbean Sea by Wednesday," forecasters said.

The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30.
