The National Weather Service is confirming that a tornado touched down just west of Hammond on Monday afternoon.
The twister was an EF-0 with maximum winds estimated at 85 miles per hour.
The weather agency says the tornado touched down at 2:39 p.m. in a parking lot on West Thomas Street, then traveled south-southwest for about three-quarters of a mile before lifting on Saint Road.
The tornado's path was 40 yards wide and it mostly damaged trees, though there was also some minor structural damage.
