The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season starts today.
Forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say this year's Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be below normal.
NOAA is predicting eight to 14 named storms, with three to six becoming hurricanes and up to three reaching major strength, Category 3 or higher.
The agency says a developing El Niño could limit storm activity.
Forecasters stress the outlook does not predict landfalls and warn it only takes one storm to make for a dangerous hurricane season, which runs through November 30.
As of Monday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center was not expected tropical development over the next 7 days.
